Born in Goiânia, Brazil, Fernando immigrated to Australia without English fluency or financial support. He worked across industries—including hospitality, labour, and logistics—to fund his education.
In 2009, he was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship by the Hon. Julia Gillard in recognition of academic performance under adversity.
